Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is, as the name suggests, a direct sequel to Square's 2009 outing. Things kick off in the futuristic world of Valhalla - a somewhat post-apocalyptic city that seems to be the Final Fantasy equivalent of an urban limbo. Lightning, thought to be dead by her sister Serah, is in constant battle with Caius - a nasty-looking chap who's fancy-boy looks and visual kei fashion is lifted right out of the A-Z of Final Fantasy supervillain design. The game makes use of the Paradigm Shift system and Quick Time Events called "Cinematic Actions". And after an early shock, Lightning is left to make a last stand for the sake of humanity, the world and everything else. Serah, who is left in another time and dimension rebuilding civilisation with Cocoon survivors, is apparently the only hope for Lightning and the safety of the universe. However, the gamer also encounters Noel Kreiss, a mysterious kid who teams up with Serah to help get reunited with her sister. Time is of the essence as a former resistance group NORA witness a strange meteorite that's impacted near Cocoon, which Noel and Serah discover is causing timelines between hundreds of years to bleed into one another. This means that Noel and Serah having to hop between historical moments and dimensions via Stargate-esque portals to reach the Historia Crux. Battling enemies in XIII-2 is a very similar affair to its predecessor, using the Paradigm Shift system which allows for the same automatic battling that you could achieve in past Final Fantasy games by hammering the X button, but maintains a strategy in Paradigms that allow you to get creative with team attacks. Square Enix hasn't changed too much to the combat here in that regard. What it has done is add some new features to shake things up a bit. Monsters fought on the field can be captured automatically and added to your own team. Each creature has its own set Paradigm style that you can use to cover any cracks in your strategy. Cait Siths are Medics, for example, while Zwerg Scandroids are Ravagers that can cast spells in your stead. There's plenty here for anyone who enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII to sink their teeth into. Grand Theft Auto V
What better way to see out a console generation than with a whopper of a blockbuster? One of the last big games not to land on the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, they don't come much bigger than Grand Theft Auto V, both in terms of hype and in terms of the game's open world. With GTA IV having taken place in a decidedly east coast sort of setting in Liberty City, this game takes things over to the west coast. The action takes place in Los Santos and the surrounding countryside of San Andreas. Los Santos has seen better days. A sprawling metropolis full of faded stars, self-help gurus and desperate celebrities, the city has declined somewhat in the face economic uncertainty and cheap reality TV. In need of a big score are Franklin, a former street-level gangster; Michael, an ex-con living the high life in witness protection and Trevor, who's a bit on the sociopathic side. These are the three characters through whose eyes you'll see Los Santos. Of course, you'll do a lot more than looking around. The game is centred around six big heists, with plenty of driving, shoot-outs and other assorted missions to get stuck into in between. The open world map is huge, with hours upon hours of content on offer. If you should happen to get through it all, however, there's a whole other side to the game. GTA V also gets you access to GTA Online, a sprawling persistent world for you and up to 15 other players to play in either cooperatively or against each other in traditional competitive modes. If you get it on launch day, GTA V could probably see you right through to the next generation of consoles... Click the banner to get it at ONLY: EUR25.00000

inFAMOUS
inFamous, like so many other games, is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. What sets inFamous apart from those other games is that in inFamous, you have the power of electricity at your fingertips. NO! Not like being able to flick a light-switch. In inFamous, you have real power, and as we all know, real power corrupts. In the game, you (playing bike messenger Cole McGrath) have to navigate around the ruins of Empire City. The city is in ruins due to an explosion that happened to be caused by a package you were carrying. After the explosion, the city falls into chaos as the cops pull out and leave the gangs to take over. Federal government claims to have the situation in control, but in reality, they have blocked exit to the city in the name of "quarantine". The gangs have mutated into powerful murderous creatures. On top of all this, your girlfriend's sister was killed in the blast, and she blames you. And your picture is being broadcast as one of the terrorists that caused the whole mess. The only upside to all this is that, like the gangs, you seem to have mutated too. You now have the power to shoot lightning bolts from your hands. You can shoot a blast wave from your hands too. As you progress through the game, re-activating the power grid in the city, your powers develop, enabling you to glide along power lines or to throw shock grenades. After teaming up with the mysterious Moya, you must track down the cause of the explosion, and make sure the awesome weapon is kept out of the wrong hands. Your task is made all the more difficult by the hordes of gang members, but the public is against you too... at least at first. Whether things remain that way is up to you, since the game has a Karma system that enables you to make "good" or "bad" choices at vital points. Travel around the city is via one of the most fluid and fun "parkour" style systems we've yet seen. The roof running, wall climbing and jumping is simple and intuitive, and it enables you to use the sprawling open-environment of the city to full effect. FIFA 15
The beautiful game is back, and with the 2014/2015 football season now well underway, Electronic Arts has another FIFA game for fans to dig their studs into. This year, the latest iteration of the game isn't about big, flashy updates attempting to overhaul the game. Rather, it's about focusing on the series' core gameplay and making the tweaks and refinements that might not seem huge to the casual observer, but to the hardcore fan will be hugely evident. EA has really doubled down on maintaining the pedigree that has made FIFA the dominant soccer game over the last few years. The new bells and whistles EA is touting include (as ever) improved graphics, with pitches that show wear and tear over the course of the match and improved player visuals. There's also the inclusion of the Turkish league and 'emotional intelligence' that delivers greater authenticity in how players react to the on-pitch action. On the pitch, though, players will notice other changes that might not be as obvious on the game's surface, but run a lot deeper. Defenders now turn with greater deliberateness and are more likely to catch attackers rather than standing around and looking nonplussed. Similarly, AI is better on the attack. Your players will burst into space on the overlap for a return ball without your prompting. You can also pick up control of the reciever of a goal kick, corner, throw-in or free kick, meaning you don't have to just hoof the ball in and hope your team makes the best of it. It's these new tweaks - tweaks that will keep on surprising you hours after you've fired up the game - that will make all the difference for FIFA fans, building on what's already gaming's premier football series.
