2015 11 04 Upgrade from 20 Mbps to Virgin Media 'Vivid 200' broadband service

Upgrade from Virgin Media 20 Mbps internet service broadband via fibre optic cable to the new Virgin Media 'Vivid 200' service with a theoretical 200 Mbps broadband connection. Speed checks prior to a system restart on the 20 Mbps service gave approx. 4 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload speeds at peak times - pretty awful. Could take upwards of an hour to upload a five minute movie to YouTube if HD quality. After a system restart done remotely on the Virgin media website, these figures shot up to approx 20 Mbps download and 4 Mbps download - significant improvment. Following upgrade to the Virgin Media 'Vivid 200' service these figures rose again, to approx 60 Mbps download and 7 Mbps upload. Figures vary each test of course throughout the day. Maximum download figure seen so far is 67 Mbps on a laptop, using the 2G Wifi connection via the Superhub router indoors. XBox One wifi connection showing 38 Mbps and 11 Mbps upload. Maximum upload speeds seen so far have been approx. 12 Mbps which is an incredible rise from the original, paltry figure of 1 Mbps with the previous service. No extra charge to upgrade at this time. The Vivid 200 broadband, with TV XL and telephone XL package works out at approx £88.45 per month as of November 2015, which includes line rental. Upload times to Youtube with HD video have dropped significantly. Highly recommend the upgrade. having checked around, the prices compare favourably with BT, Sky, Talk Talk, etc.
