This is the initial testing of a rudimentary, battery-operated, programmable, Arduino-based, GPS navigation device. LEDs were used to indicate heading correction or if navigation to the destination had been achieved. Static testing indicates that the GPS circular error probable (CEP) is approximately 2 meters radius. Hardware used includes: --- Arduino Uno --- Adafruit Ultimate GPS Logger Shield --- Adafruit 9-DOF IMU Breakout --- Breadboard, LEDs, 220 Ohm resistors Significant software coding problem that was overcome includes: --- 4-byte floating point limitation of the Arduino Uno This is a developmental step in the quest to design and fabricate an autonomous (robotic) sailboat. Questions and comments are welcome.
