(roll film) Two Roanoke County children drowned in a tragic accident this afternoon in the (take film) Bradshaw, section. 4-year old Darlene Francis Pettit and 3-year old Chester M. Young apparently were playing in the vicinity of an abandoned swimming pool when they slipped and fell in. A bruisex was found on the girls forehead. Roanoke County police, the county rescue squad, and the Salem Rescue squad answered the call. A spokesman for the Salem squad says rescue crews tryed various means of resuscitation on both victims, but to no avail. The accident happened within sight of the homes of the childrens parents. The Pettit and Young children drowned in what was apparently 4-foot deep accumulation of rain and melted snow water in the bottom of the private, fenced-in pool.
